Mission and Vision
The mission of the Broadband Alliance of Mendocino County is to ensure that the county’s population has affordable universal broadband access in their homes, businesses, and transportation to support economic viability, ensure health and safety, and access educational opportunities.
Our vision is affordable universal broadband access for everyone everywhere.
Goals
- 98% of the county’s population has affordable lifeline broadband access available in their homes and in their businesses. Today: 1Mbps down and 500Kbps up.
- 75% of the county’s population has residential-grade broadband access available in their homes and in their businesses. Today: 4Mbps down and 1Mbps up.
- 50% of the county’s population has business-grade broadband Internet access available in their homes and in their businesses. Today: 10Mbps down and 5Mbps up.
- 10% of the county’s population has international-grade broadband Internet access available in their homes and in their businesses. 500Mbps down and 25Mbps up.
- All speeds adjusted over time to track FCC and CPUC recommended technology standards.
- Cellular voice and data coverage available in all cities, communities, and transportation corridors.
- All county library branches will supply unfiltered public access to at least business-grade broadband access, and cellular voice and data coverage.
Strategies
- Develop shovel-ready projects, ready for grant application when grants become available.
- Work with telecommunication vendors to improve voice and data cellular coverage throughout the County.
- Educate the public on broadband, and engage community participation.
- Work with elected and appointed officials to further the cause of universal rural broadband access.
Organization
The Alliance is endorsed by the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors, with participation from the Mendocino County Executive Office, Office of Emergency Services, Office of Education, Library District and Planning & Building Services.
